Between Hibiscus Flowers is an artist’s tribute to her young adulthood. This collection is a celebration and closing of a long and bountiful era on the Hibiscus Coast. Between the Hibiscus Flowers is inspired by the experiences, feelings and musings of ‘growing up’. Filled with exploration, overseas travel, dreamy landscapes and expressive techniques, Emmeline's works are created from memories, imagination and nostalgia.
Heavily influenced by Magical Realism, these paintings take on a dreamy expression. With feet on the ground yet head in the clouds, Emmeline has created works that celebrate the enjoyment and contentment of life. Inspired by Fauvism’s commitment to beauty and Expressionism’s dedication to emotion, these impressionistic works have colour and life.
Within the paintings and artworks ideas of reciprocity and connection shines through. Being raised rural and living on the same farm for her entire upbringing created a deep sense of belonging for Emmeline. Her commitment to reciprocity, and being part of a cycle of giving, sees her works celebrating the natural world.
Between Hibiscus Flowers is a showcase of works that look at life with contentment and gratitude. It invites the viewer to enter memories and emotions of nostalgia and belonging. These paintings mark the end of Emmeline’s time in Auckland as she prepares to start her new life in Christchurch. They are a tribute to her being raised Between Hibiscus Flowers.
